The Most Surprising Roblox Friend Connections We've Seen on FriendPath
1. Almost every regular player is 3–5 hops from David Baszucki
The most consistent surprise. The CEO of Roblox is reachable from any random active Roblox account within about 3 to 5 hops — not because regular players know the CEO, but because regular players know someone who knows a creator who knows someone who is friended to him. The math behind this is the small-world phenomenon: Cornell's networking textbook chapter on it covers the formal explanation.
2. KreekCraft and DenisDaily are almost always 2 hops apart
Two of the biggest Roblox YouTubers, often working in similar Roblox content niches, are rarely more than 2 hops apart on the friend graph. They likely aren't direct friends, but they share so many mutual collaborators that you can almost always find them through one intermediate creator. This is consistent with what Facebook's 2016 social-graph study found: in a densely connected creator subgraph, the average distance collapses to under 4.
3. Roblox developers are extraordinarily close to each other
The Roblox Developer community — people who actually build games on the platform — is the tightest subgraph we see. Pick any two prominent developers from the Roblox Developer Forum and the path between them is often 1 or 2 hops. Reasons: RDC (Roblox Developer Conference) attendees friend each other in person; shared studios at top games like Adopt Me, Murder Mystery 2, and Brookhaven have huge overlapping social graphs; the dev community has been historically tight-knit since the 2010s.
4. Banned-account paths sometimes still exist
One unexpected thing: if you search a path between two random users, sometimes the chain that comes back includes one or two account-IDs that no longer have visible profiles — accounts that were banned or terminated after the friendship was established. Roblox's API still returns those friend relationships even though the account itself is inaccessible. From FriendPath's perspective, banned accounts are dead ends — we stop traversing through them — but the historical edge still exists.
5. Pre-2015 friendships disproportionately drive short paths
Many of the shortest paths we see route through accounts that have been on Roblox since 2007–2015. These older accounts accumulated friend connections over many years (often hitting the old 200-friend cap, since raised to 1,000 in 2024) and tend to act as bridges between newer subgroups. The 2015 introduction of the follow system caused some of these to migrate friends into follows, but the residual high-degree connections remain unusually load-bearing.
6. UK accounts are invisible in the chain, but their absence shapes the graph
Since the UK Online Safety Act took effect in 2023 (full post), UK-based accounts don't expose their friend lists publicly. We can see edges to them, but not edges through them. The result: chains that would naturally route through a UK player end up routing around them, often making the visible path slightly longer than the true shortest path. We surface a workaround in the search log when we detect this.
7. New accounts (post-2024) have shorter average paths than people expect
Counter-intuitively, brand-new accounts created in 2024–2025 often have shorter average paths to famous users than 5-year-old casual accounts do. Why? New users tend to add the friends Roblox suggests to them (which are popular accounts), while older casual accounts only ever friended their real-life friends and never expanded out. The "social graph age" effect favors newer-but-active accounts.
What this all means about Roblox
The takeaway is that Roblox's social graph behaves exactly like every other major online social network that's been studied. Pre-internet, Milgram found an average chain length of about 5.2 hops. Facebook in 2016 measured 3.57 hops between any two users on its network of 1.6 billion. Roblox sits squarely in between — closer to 4 hops on average between active accounts — which is exactly what the math predicts for a network of its size and density.
If you want to test it on your own account, hit the dice button on the main page twice (one for "Your Username," one for "Target") and watch the search expand outward. Most paths come back in under a minute, even on a network of 70+ million accounts.

What is FriendPath?
FriendPath is a free web tool that finds the shortest chain of friends between any two Roblox accounts using bidirectional breadth-first search over Roblox's public friends API. Runs in your browser, no install, no Roblox login required.
What does "degrees of separation" mean on Roblox?
It's the number of friend links between two accounts. If you're friends with someone who's friends with David Baszucki, you are 2 degrees of separation from David Baszucki. Most active Roblox players are within 3–5 hops of any famous account.
Is FriendPath free?
Yes. The web tool at friendpath.arbastro.com is 100% free, ad-supported. The public API offers 50 free calls per day with paid tiers beyond. See the API docs for details.
Does FriendPath work with banned or terminated accounts?
Yes — Roblox's friends API still returns friend lists for banned/terminated accounts, so FriendPath can traverse through them. The path is computed on the public friend graph, not on a player's active session.
