If you've ever tried to use FriendPath or a similar friend-graph tool and gotten "no path found," there's a good chance your Roblox account is region-locked to the United Kingdom. Since 2023, UK accounts have their friend lists hidden from public APIs. Here's how to check, and what you can (and can't) do about it.

Short answer

Open Roblox in your browser, go to Account Settings, look at "Country/Region." If it's set to United Kingdom, your friend list is hidden from FriendPath and other graph tools (the 2023 Online Safety Act). You can't easily change region; Roblox locks it to your verified billing/age data.

How to check your Roblox region

Open roblox.com in a desktop browser (mobile app hides this setting)
Click your avatar in the top-right → Settings
On the Account Info tab, scroll to "Country/Region"
The value shown is what Roblox treats you as for legal/regulatory purposes

If your region is United Kingdom, your friend list is hidden from Roblox's public API and from FriendPath. If it's any other country, your friend list is normally accessible.

Why this happens — the 2023 Online Safety Act

The UK passed the Online Safety Act in October 2023. It requires platforms accessible to UK minors to limit the personal social data they expose by default. Roblox responded by hiding the friend lists of all UK-located accounts (not just minors — everyone, by default). Full background in our UK Online Safety Act post.

Can I change my region?

Mostly, no — Roblox sets your region based on your billing address (if you've ever bought Robux or a subscription), your verified ID (if you've age-verified), or your IP at signup. You can't change it through the UI. Using a VPN to mask your IP doesn't change the stored region on your account.

If you're caught in this without ever having lived in the UK (e.g., you used a UK VPN at signup), you can contact Roblox Support with proof of your actual location and they will sometimes correct it. No guarantees.

The FriendPath workaround

If you ARE UK-located and want to use FriendPath anyway, the community workaround:

Pick any of your friends who is NOT based in the UK
Use THEIR username as "Your Username" on FriendPath
Run the search as normal
Add +1 degree to the returned path — that's the approximate distance from YOU to the target

It won't be the absolute shortest path (the true shortest might route through a UK friend whose list we can't see), but it's a close approximation. FriendPath automatically detects when a search hits a UK-restricted account and surfaces this workaround in the progress log.

Will Roblox lift this someday?

Possibly — there's a community petition asking Roblox to give 18+ age-verified UK adults the option to opt back in to public friend visibility. There's also a DevForum thread discussing the technical/policy case. The Online Safety Act is fundamentally about protecting children, so the argument for letting verified adults opt back in is logically reasonable. Whether Roblox does it is up to them.
